|Boy Or Girl - You Pick!
|Everyone wants a girl. My reply, is why?
Neutered boys are excellent family pets!
Don't discount that sweet boy because you always had a girl puppy growing up.
If you have your mind set on one sex for your Goldendoodle puppy, only just
remember probably most of what you have heard were based on a particular dog, his/her habits, how
they were raised.
Either sex can be and is a wonderful pet to have.
Male vs. Female
The age old dilemma of which is better!
Many people believe that female dogs make better pets...female preference seems to be ingrained in these people. Most calls
for pet dogs have people wanting a 'sweet girl'. They don't think females display alpha behaviors like 'marking' and/or
'humping'. They believe that they are more docile and attentive and do not participate in fighting over dominance.
In the dog pack make-up, females usually rule the roost, determine pecking order, and who compete to maintain and/or alter
that order. The females are, as a result, more independent, stubborn, and territorial than their male counterparts. Females can
show their dominance by humping. Girls can be somewhat quicker and easier to train as they mature quicker. Also, they get
along well with other males. Girls tend to fight other girlsand the fight is intense and long.
Neutered males rarely exhibit secondary sexual behavior such as 'humping', or 'marking' and lifting of legs. Once the
testosterone levels recede after neutering, most of these behaviors (if they ever existed) will disappear. Boys who were
neutered early (by 5- 6 months of age) usually don't ever raise their leg to urinate. Usually, boys, after being neutered are
more laid back, are more lovable, more attentive to all family members, due to slow maturity are more puppy-like for a longer
period of time and get over squabbles faster/more forgiving.
I had a neutered male in my home and he was the sweetest, most loving of all the dogs we have ever owned. He did not fight
any other dog for or over anything. He could and did learn new tricks even when he was 10 years old. He was, though, very
attached and very loyal to one person, my husband. Even though I trained him and showed him in AKC events.
There are many health benefits associated with getting your puppy
spayed/neutered by the age of 6-7 months. The risk of cancer in the reproductive organs will be reduced by
about 75% when your pet is spayed/neutered.
